Tie Dying

Since the weather was meant to be reasonable at the weekend I decided to set to with my first tie-dying session of the summer.
I had some bright coloured dye powder left from last year and popped out to get some blue shades as they were on offer at Hobbycraft.
Friday was spent prepping the pre-washed white clothes with elastic bands, and Saturday morning was spent covered in sun cream in the garden doing the dying.

In the evening as we rinsed out the garments, the heavens opened, but we had the patio covered so everything could stay outside on dryers after the big rinse off.  I was pretty pleased with the results at that point, but I knew some of the dye was old and was likely to fade in the final wash. In the end that just added to the effect.

Some of the items were old white shirts that had got a little grubby over time and dying them has given them a fresh lease of colourful life. I’m especially pleased with my Jerry Garcia shirt.

The final results are below.
